What does enforcement actually look like in sequence?
- 1.The fake accounts are removed. Your purchased units disappear; nothing has happened to your account yet.
- 2.Distribution is reduced. Reach falls without notification, which is the step people call a shadowban.
- 3.Features are limited. Live, monetisation, recommendations or advertising eligibility can be withdrawn.
- 4.The account is terminated. Reserved for repeat or compound violations, and much more common on YouTube than elsewhere.
YouTube states plainly that terminated accounts and subscribers identified as spam do not count toward your totals, that repeated violations accumulate strikes, and that three strikes within 90 days results in channel termination, with immediate termination possible in severe cases (YouTube Help, “Fake engagement policy”, checked 2026-09-11).
What makes enforcement more likely?
- A new account with no history for the spike to be weighed against.
- A very large quantity delivered instantly rather than drip-fed.
- Buying on an account that is monetised, verified or commercially prominent — where the platform has more reason to look and more to withdraw.
- Buying the categories platforms police hardest: watch time, subscribers, and anything that unlocks a payout.
